Joshua Tree – Trip Through Your Wires

Let’s go back to the early days of Joshua Tree.  Bootleg tapes, early recordings.  Peel back the curtain of the creative process.  I uncovered a lost video of Bono and Edge in a basement collaborating on the song, Trip Through Your Wires.

Looks like the song has come a long way.  See below for the alleged first introduction of the song.

Not an echo effect in sight, and the Dylan-esque harp solo, buckskin jackets and Edge’s beret seems right out of the 60’s and 70’s.

Bono once said about this song, “It was a hootenanny, a big yahoo.  We kind of made it up at the moment and I just blew into the harp.”

For me, the song was a little out of place on the album.  Just didn’t quite fit, but still good enough to make it to the 8th position on the back side.  And lyrically, probably a throwaway.

It’s Blues, it’s Rock, it’s a bunch of boys making music in the basement.

Yep, Bono’s basement tape.

“All you have to do is write one true sentence.” Ernest Hemingway I’m no Hemingway. But this web creation is a part of writing that one true sentence. Of being inspired by fellow contributors that have, if not something meaningful, but interesting to say and are willing to invest energy beyond 140 characters. Of creating an open forum for these ideas, capturing a thought or a moment in time. But more importantly, this is about a personal commitment to putting a thought to paper and throwing it against the wall to see if it sticks. Enjoy.
